Meg Ryan

Meg Ryan, blonde-haired and blue-eyed, was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra in Fairfield Connecticut to Susan (Duggan) the former actress and English teacher, as well as Harry Hyra, a maths teacher. Her ancestry includes Ruthenian, Polish and Irish and German. ("Hyra") is her Ruthenian surname and "Ryan", is her maternal grandmother's maiden name. Meg has graduated from Bethel High School in Bethel in May 1979. Meg moved to New York and majored as a journalist at New York University. To earn some extra cash while completing her studies, Meg went into acting under her new name Meg Ryan. Her first screen appearance came in 1981 with a short appearance as Candice Bergen’s daughter in George Cukor's final film Rich and Famous (1981). She was cast in the part of Betsy in the TV soap as the World Turns (1956) after she tried out. From 1982 until 1984, she was a member of the ensemble. Meg was also a participant in the television show One of the Boys (1982) and was ended. Her move to Hollywood came in 1984, where she was offered an offer to appear on the western television series Wildside (1985). Meg's tiny role in the blockbuster movie Top Gun (1986) led to her being selected for Steven Spielberg's Innerspace (1987) in which she co-starred alongside Dennis Quaid. She was again in the same role with Dennis Quaid in the remake of D.O.A. (1988) and they were married on Saint Valentine's Day 1991. In 1989, Meg appeared in When Harry Met Sally... (1989) and the scene at the restaurant gained a lot of attention. Meg was twice nominated for the Golden Globe and BAFTA. In 1990, she co-starred with Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and this time she played three roles as DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. In 1993, Meg starred alongside Tom in Sleepless in Seattle (1993) for which she was nominated again for the Golden Globe. Meg was able to break away from the established norms in 1994 when she played the role as Meg's alcohol-dependent wife and mother "When a Man Loves a Woman" (1994). Meg returned to being "cute" afterward with I.Q. (1994) as well as French Kiss (1995). People Magazine voted Meg as one of the 50 most beautiful people on the planet 1994.
